Mostly, Pocket digital camera user complains because of their photography result tending to under exposure, especially for flash photography ( indoor). This issue appears at pocket camera only relies on built-in flash which has low intensity. So the flash coverage is very limited. The image will get worse because of our habit to take picture so far from the object. It means the flash light did not reach the object.
Common happened:
* at wide angle lens ( zoom out max), only in middle area of the photos does have enough bright, while at peripheral corner, tends to darker, this because of limitation of coverage area flash.
* At tele lens ( zoom in max), tends to entirety is less bright (under), because at this angle. Aperture minimizes, so that light is required more is, as a result flash reach being shorted.
To avoid this problem, we need to know the flash camera ability. Most of pocket camera just give us the maximum flash reach data. For example; wide angle 3m, tele 2m, iso 200.
Every increasing of 1 stop / double ( ISO 200), the distance increases 1,4 times, 2 stop / quadruple ( ISO 400) increases 2 times, on the other hand. When ISO downwards ½ his ( ISO 50), the iso declines 0,7 times.
To prevent under exposure, take a picture in inside the distance of flash light camera.
You need to pay attention of this:
1. Use highest ISO for less light condition (low light) or for moving object (sport photograph / action), so the object has enough light, at the same time, it used for “ freezes” motion.
Important for you to know that High ISO usage has a weakness, especially at this small sensor camera, there will be noise improvement (grainy), because of improvement of light sensor sensitivity by boosting up the sensor amplifier. Don’t worry, this noise still tolerable, you still can print it in 3-4R size for a good condition. However, if you “ allergy” with noise/grainy, avoids ISO 400, applies max ISO 200.
2. Use low speed flash, so your object and the background have enough light.
These tips very useful for night shoot/scene, where the background is dark, it would be enough bright for you to produce beautiful shoot. You must remember one thing, because you use low speed flash, keep the camera and object steady while you take a shot. You can use tripod if you have.
3. Use EV Electron Volt value (exposure compensation) to brightens the result of your photograph
The advantage is you can improve object brightness without increasing the noise. This action reduces that speed to safe point, where speed is still enough to handheld. If still doesn’t enough, the aperture will enlarge. Because this action, we should consider several things:
- The more EV Value, the lower speed that we have. This action fit for still object
- To prevent overexposure, avoid use camera in short distance or close up. The best way is, reach the maximum distance of flash.
- How much EV Value? Its depends how bright the image that we want. And also depend on how bright the location and ISO setting. Do some rehearse to test the brightness.
I hope these tips can help you to take a beautiful photo. Have a good shoot with your digital cameras. digitallenss
